How To Start a Podcast Club

Here's How:

1. Contact friends who may be interested in learning about music, literature, politics, history, science, spirituality, or any other topic. It helps if you and your friends have diverse interests.

2. Agree on a time to chat in person or online (you can share this club with online friends) in order to establish guidelines.

3. The goal of the club is to select one person each week who will come up with two to four related podcasts on a topic of his/her choice. That person will send the names of the podcasts and other identifying information to club members.

4. Club members will listen to the podcasts individually on their own time.

5. At a specified time each week, club members will get together to discuss and/or debate the week's topic. Each member should point out likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses.

Tips:

1. Many university professors create podcasts of their daily lectures. These are great resources for topics like history and science.

2. University officials will be very impressed with students who invent their own extracurricular activity! This club will look great on a college application.

3. Try to keep to the rules and select a specific day and discussion time each week. It is better for individual members to miss occasional discussions than to start changing the time around. When you start changing the rules around, your club will begin to weaken.

4. Try to mix up the topics. They can be fun, educational, or controversial. They should always be thought-provoking.

5. It's simple to search podcast topics using iTunes, which comes with your iPod. Just go to the menu and select Podcast and Music Store.
